An “ammosexual” (ammo + guns) is someone who loves ammo (ammunition) and guns. “Sexual” is a suffix in such terms ad “metrosexual” and “homosexual.” “Ammosexual” was cited in print in the book Food Court Druids, Cherohonkees and Other Creatures Unique to the Republic (2004) by Robert Lanham.
 
A 2013 poster used the word “ammosexuals.” Bill Maher, host of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, used the word “ammosexual” on his show on June 6, 2014.

Bill Maher last night on “New Rules” took on extreme gun enthusiasts who have been showing up at fast food restaurants with semi-automatic weapons strapped to their backs. As many have recently, he labeled them “ammosexuals,” and charged they have “unnatural romantic relations” with their firearms.
 
“The only time you should take a gun into a Sonic restaurant is when you’re robbing it,” Maher began the segment saying. “Yes, lately firearms enthusiasts have been taking their guns out to public places for playdates with other gun owners and their guns. And in the process, frightening lots of properly adjusted people in places like Sonic, and Chili’s, and Chipotle, and Jack in the Box, proving once again that America’s gun laws are worthless and sad. And that its dining options aren’t much better.”
