“An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman don’t walk into a bar” (bar joke)

“A guy walks into a bar…” is a typical form of what has been called the “bar joke.” However, during the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic, most bars were closed. The joke was:

“An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman don’t walk into a bar.”

“An Englishman, Irishman and Scotsman don’t walk into a bar” was posted on Facebook by Jack Grainger on March 18, 2020. “An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman don’t walk into a bar…” was posted on Twitter by Michael Gibson on March 21, 2020.

“An Englishman, a Scotsman and an Irishman walk into a bar…” is the original joke.

“A man doesn’t walk into a bar…,” “A man doesn’t walk into a pub…,” “A man walks into a bar, lucky bastard” and “An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman walk into a bar. Those were the days” are related jokes.

As with most things the ‘a man walks into a bar’ joke is also feeling the effects of COVID-19 “An Englishman, Irishman and a Scotsman don’t walk into a bar instead they maintain the prescribed social distancing protocols - what a fine example of social responsibility.”
