“Anything is deductible until you’re audited”

“Anything/Everything is deductible until you’re audited” is a tax saying that has been cited in print since at least 2003. The saying means that the taxpayer can make a plausible argument for deductibility—until the Internal Revenue Service challenges it in an audit.

Of course, you can claim what you want (until you’re audited).

You can get away with it until you’re audited. Then, you’re absolutely and wholly screwed. And if you think you’ll never be audited, think again.

The number one rule of taxes is that anything is deductible until you’re audited.

The person who prepares my taxes is an enrolled agent who handles returns for several clients in the business. He’s been preparing my returns for several years and I feel very confident that he knows what is deductible and what isn’t. His standard line is that anything can be deducted up until you’re audited.

MY college tax professor said “Take any possibly legit deduction…..make the IRS tell ya its not deductible under audit.”

The old saying is that you can get away with anything until you’re audited. It then comes back to roost.
