“April showers bring May flowers” is a proverb from at least the 1500s. “April showers bring (May) mud (puddles)” is a variation that has been printed on several images.
     
“April showers bring mud” was printed in the Meriden (CT) Daily Republican on April 8, 1895. “April showers bring May mud” was printed in the St. Joseph (MO) Gazette on May 1, 1915.
     
“Without it where would all those things that April showers bring—namely mud puddles—be if you didn’t have good old, hazy-brained May around?” was printed in The Oregon Statesman (Salem, OR) on May 3, 1959. “April Showers Bring May Mud Puddles” was printed in the South Bend (IN) Tribune on March 26, 2006. “April showers bring mud puddles. :(” was posted on Twitter by Mzlaki on April 2, 2013.
