Arklatex (Ark-La-Tex, ArkLaTex, also Arklatexoma)

“Arklatex” (also spelled “Ark-La-Tex” and ““ArkLaTex”) is a regional name composed of the state names of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. Sometimes Oklahoma is added to the name, making it “Arklatexoma.”

The name dates back to the early 1900s and was popularized by a Shreveport (LA) Chamber of Commerce advertising campaign in 1932-1933.

Wikipedia: Ark-La-Tex
The Ark-La-Tex, Arklatex, or ArkLaTex is a U.S. socio-economic region where Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma intersect. Some prefer the more inclusive Arklatexoma. The region is centered on the Shreveport/Bossier metropolitan area in Northwest Louisiana, although Marshall in Northeast Texas, Natchitoches, Louisiana, and both Texarkana, Texas and Texarkana, Arkansas, retain a large degree of autonomy. Most of the region is located in the Piney Woods, an ecoregion of dense forest of mixed deciduous and conifer flora. The forests are periodically punctated by sloughs and bayous that are linked to larger bodies of water such as Caddo Lake or the Red River.

“The Land of Arklatex” is to be the theme of an advertising campaign to be sponsored and financed by the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, according to an announcement by officials of that body following a meeting of more than fifty Shreveport business men on Tuesday evening of last week.

The campaign is to be built upon the idea that the interests of all the people in the Tr-state area of South Arkansas, North Louisiana and East Texas are practically identical in matters pertaining to agriculture, industry, commerce and trade, and education.
