“Army Wife: Toughest job in the Army”

“Army Wife: Toughest job in the Army” is a slogan that has appeared on many gift items, such as bumper stickers and T-shirts. “Army wife: It’s the toughest job in the world…moving expert…” was cited in print in 1993. “ARMY WIFE (picture of Army Commendation Medal) Toughest Job in the Army” was cited in print in 1997.

Some commenters object to the slogan, stating that while army wives have a difficult life, it doesn’t compare to the job of a soldier.

A framed quote in a downstairs family room describes the taskmaster: “Army wife: It’s the toughest job in the world…moving expert…”

The other day I needed to go to Sam’s Club for something and saw this bumper sticker on many cars in the parking lot: “Army Wife—toughest job in the Army.”

“Army Wife,” read the bumper sticker I saw on a car the other day. It was below the bumper sticker that read “Don’t Be a Dick” and above the one that read “Life Is Short, Party Naked.” (No, I am not making this up.) I agree, being an army wife is the toughest job in the military. Your husband might be sent to fight some unnecessary foreign war and neglect his family. Not to mention that he might get injured, become suicidal, visit a prostitute, get hooked on drugs or booze.
