When Bar Artisanal opened in Tribeca (268 West Broadway, between Avenue Of The Americas & Lispenard Street) in 2009, owner Terrance Brennan remarked that it was a “barstro”—a cross between a bistro and a bar. Bar Artisanal has since closed.
 
Woody McGee’s Barstro opened in 2011 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The term “barstro” remains little-used.

From a press release about Terrance Brennan’s takeover of the failed Trigo space, which will reopen as Bar Artisanal on Tuesday, April 21: “Concept: Bar Artisanal is a Barstro—a cross between a bistro and a bar…Bar Artisanal will feature inventive cocktails….an accessible wine list; and dishes that are $20 and under.”
