Big Agbalumo (Lagos nickname)

New York City is the ‘Big Apple,” and Lagos, Nigeria (the most populous city in Africa) has sometimes been called “Big Agbalumo.” Agbalumo is the Nigerian name for the “white star apple” (Chrysophyllum albidum). “Back in the Big Agbalumo (Lagos)” was cited on Twitter on Jul 12, 2010. “Big Agbalumo RT @DejiVanSteel: If New york is the BIG APPLE,....Lagos is _________??” was cited on Twitter on June 8, 2011.

Lagos has also been called “Africa’s Big Apple” and “Big Yam.”

Wikipedia: Lagos
Lagos /ˈleɪɡɒs/ (Yoruba: Èkó) is a city in the Nigerian state of Lagos. The city, with its adjoining conurbation, is the largest in Nigeria, as well as on the African continent. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the world and also one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. Lagos is a major financial centre in Africa; the mega city has the highest GDP, and also houses one of the largest and busiest ports on the continent.

Wikipedia: Chrysophyllum albidum
Chrysophyllum albidum is a forest fruit tree described by the Scottish botanist George Don. It is found throughout tropical Africa. They are commonly found throughout tropical Africa.

Its common name is the white star apple. It is closely related to the African star apple (Chrysophyllum africanum) which is also common throughout West Africa. Some schools of thought feel that they may just be a variety of the same species.
