Big Apple Fashioned (cocktail)

“Big Apple Fashioned” (Big Apple + Old Fashioned cocktail) was created by Hayley Jensen, beer sommelier of Taproom No. 307 (307 Third Avenue in Manhattan), in 2012. The cocktail is featured on the website of Angry Orchard and includes its Angry Orchard Crisp Apple.

The recipe calls for 2 orange slices, 2 branded cherries, 1/2 ounce honey, 1 ounce bourbon, 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth and 3 ounces Angry Orchard Crisp Apple.

Wikipedia: Old Fashioned
The Old Fashioned is an IBA Official Cocktail made by muddling sugar with bitters then adding alcohol, such as whiskey or brandy, and a twist of citrus rind. It is traditionally served in a short, round, 8–12 US fl oz (240–350 ml) tumbler-like glass, which is called an Old Fashioned glass, named after the drink.

Traditionally, the first use of the name “Old Fashioned” for a Bourbon whiskey cocktail was said to have been, anachronistically, at the Pendennis Club, a gentlemen’s club founded in 1881 in Louisville, Kentucky. The recipe was said to have been invented by a bartender at that club in honor of Colonel James E. Pepper, a prominent bourbon distiller, who brought it to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel bar in New York City.

Next, add the bourbon and sweet vermouth and mix well until the honey is diluted. Pour in the Angry Orchard Crisp Apple and shake hard with ice. Strain the cocktail into a martini glass and garnish with orange slices and cherries.
