Wikipedia: Big Apple Pizza
Big Apple Pizza (Hebrew: ביג אפל פיצה‎) is an Israeli pizza chain with 11 branches throughout Israel, founded in 1986.

History
Big Apple Pizza was founded in 1986 by Haim Kedem, in the Jerusalem mall, Dorot Rishonim.

Kedem had spent many years in New York City and upon moving to Israel decided to open a pizza shop to bring the piece of NYC with him. Kedem’s pizza, in traditional NYC fashion was made with thin crust.

Big Apple Pizza—Our story
In 1978, Haim Kedem came to the Big Apple in search of a better future.

In those days, New York City became the capital of street culture, a city that had its own rhythm and color.

After 8 years behind the wheel of a yellow taxi and countless encounters with people and different tastes, Haim returned to Jerusalem…

And brought with him the love for New York people and culture and put it all into the winning recipe of “Big Apple Pizza.”

One of my favorite pizza places in Jerusalem is BIG APPLE PIZZA. It’s a franchise, and Jerusalem has three stores: two downtown and one in a new shopping center near where I work. Tel Aviv and Eilat have one franchise each, too, but I haven’t sampled them yet.
Each franchise in Jerusalem has memorabilia from New York City and from the rest of the US. One of the downtown stores even has a mural of the New York City skyline.

Of course, my favorite part of Big Apple Pizza is the pizza. It’s delicious, and I highly recommend it. While I’m at it, there’s something else about Big Apple that I like: the music.

“We are realizing the dream of our founder, Haim Kedem, who opened the first Big Apple Pizza in Jerusalem, Israel, in 1986,” said David Mathews, a partner with his wife, Debbie. “There are now 11 family owned and franchised locations in Israel. Haim’s dream was to open a location in the U.S. We will be catering to the large Jewish Orthodox population locally, most of which are familiar with out restaurants in Israel through the course of their travels there.”

Honestly, I don’t remember. I only eat kosher, so the pizza places I frequent all have names of Israeli cities. In NY, pizza is Jerusalem II. (in Israel, it’s Big Apple pizza. Go figure)
