Bonut (biscuit + doughnut)

The “bonut” (biscuit + doughnut) was trademarked by Biscuit Love (a Nashville, Tennessee food truck and later a restaurant) with a first use date of May 2012. The trademark status is currently “Dead,” and many other establishments make “bonuts,” according to several different recipes. Some bonuts are glazed biscuits, and some are also filled.
 
New York City’s Root & Bone (200 East 3rd Street in Alphabet City) began selling “bonuts” in 2016.

Nothing beats a warm, flaky, buttery biscuit. Strike that. Nothing beats a freshly fried, perfectly glazed doughnut. But why can’t we have both? New York City’s Root & Bone, known for their superb chicken and waffles, recently posted on Instagram that they’ve punched holes in their biscuits, fried them, coated them in sugar and is deeming it the Bonut.
 
The post calls out the hoity-toity croissant-doughnut mashup that is the Cronut, stating that the Bonut “doesn’t think it’s better than you.”
