A Broadway Hangout, Old Chum
By ERIK PIEPENBURG MAY 31, 2012
(...)
But when cases of liquor were wheeled in on hand trucks and talk turned to herb sorbets, it became obvious that this was something else altogether. The furrowed brows and barked orders were in preparation for the opening of 54 Below, a Broadway supper club for a Broadway crowd. On West 54th Street, below what was once the legendary nightclub Studio 54, where the hard-partying ghosts of the ’70s must still wander, 54 Below opens officially next week with a two-week engagement by Patti LuPone.

Its aim is to tilt the axis of the city’s unpredictably evolving cabaret world. It’s doing so with star power, deep pockets and ambitions to become “Broadway’s living room.”

New Club, but a Legend’s Familiar Face
Patti LuPone Is First Headliner at the Cabaret 54 Below

By STEPHEN HOLDEN JUNE 13, 2012
(...)
Because 54 Below, unlike Manhattan’s other supper clubs, is a stand-alone operation, its long-term future depends on building a loyal patronage. At least it knows exactly what it wants to be: “Broadway’s nightclub,” its advertising calls it. After Ms. LuPone’s run ends Saturday extended engagements are booked for Andrea Martin, Brian d’Arcy James, Ben Vereen and Jenifer Lewis, with many other performers appearing for one or two nights. Ideally 54 Below will establish itself as an intimate must-attend clubhouse for New York’s closely knit musical-theater community and its supporters. I know I’ll be there.

Jennifer Ashley Tepper Has Big Plans for 54 Below
The musical-theater historian/superfan is bringing her encyclopedic knowledge to the cabaret venue as its new director of programming.

Zachary Stewart • New York City • Sep 10, 2013
Waiters and technicians rushed around the small café table at which Jennifer Ashley Tepper and I sat, unstrategically placed in front of the coat check at 54 Below. Tepper is the newest addition to the 54 Below team, the recently hired Director of Programming at the 14-month-old cabaret on West 54th Street that bills itself as “Broadway’s Supper Club.”

Michael Feinstein and the Club 54 Below Agree to a Partnership
By STEPHEN HOLDEN SEPT. 2, 2015
Two of the biggest names in cabaret — Michael Feinstein and 54 Below — are joining forces. The Midtown Manhattan supper club, nicknamed “Broadway’s living room,” in the basement of the former disco Studio 54, will be renamed Feinstein’s/54 Below. And Mr. Feinstein, the singer and pianist known as the ambassador of the Great American Songbook, will play his first engagement there, Dec. 20-30. Thereafter, he will appear twice annually.
