Breastaurant (breast + restaurant)

A “breastaurant” (breast + restaurant) is a restaurant where the waitresses wear sexually appealing costumes, such as those that emphasize the bosom. The formula of food and “fun” was popularized by the Hooters restaurant chain in the 1980s. “Breastaurant” has been cited in print since 1966, but became popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s..
 
The publication Nursing Times published a 1980 article titled “Breastaurant guide”—that is, a guide to breastfeeding in restaurants. This breastfeeding definition of “breastaurant” has been used less frequently than the previous definition that was popularized a few years later.

The “breastaurants” are officially at war. As food franchises fight to stay afloat, there is a post-recession boom for restaurant establishments with added sex appeal.
 
Breastaurants are a more-than-$1-billion industry, and places like Twin Peaks, the Tilted Kilt, Bone Daddy’s and others are in a heated fight to knock the reigning breastaurant king, Hooters, off its throne.

While Hooters, Twin Peaks, the Tilted Kilt and other chain restaurants that feature bodacious waitresses in skimpy outfits have been called “breastaurants” for years, the owner of the Texas-based Bikinis Bar and Grill is the first to make it official.
 
Doug Guller, CEO of ATX Brands LLC, which owns Bikinis Sports Bar and Grill, announced today he has trademarked the term “breastaurant” through the United States Patent and Trademark Office, meaning his company is the only one who can describe itself with the term.
