Nets’ dance team to be called Brooklynettes

By ESPN NewYork.com
From a team press release:

Brooklynettes has been introduced as the name for the dance team of the Brooklyn Nets. To accompany the name, the Brooklynettes revealed their new logo and off-season uniforms after the final roster was selected Wednesday night at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg.

The Brooklynettes identity is inspired by Brooklyn and its new home team. The logo, designed by the Brooklyn Nets creative department, features a bold shield shape to symbolically identify the team with the strength and character of Brooklyn. The script is choreographic to signify the movement of a dancer. The graffiti-style logotype captures the urban landscape of Brooklyn.

“Brooklynettes exemplifies a strong feminine name with a creative connection to the borough,” said Petra Pope, Senior Vice President of Event Marketing and Community Relations for the Brooklyn Nets

Brooklynettes Uniforms Raise Eyebrows. Too Sexy?
By Net Income on Sep 26 2012, 9:18p
Oh dear, a controversy. The Nets have unveiled the full line of the Brooklynettes uniforms, seven in all, and some find them a bit too much. Cover your eyes, boys. They’re provocative or sexy or trashy or edgy or maybe just New York. As David Dalrymple, their designer (and someone with a resume) points out, “This isn’t palm trees and sunshine. It’s New York City, and it’s Brooklyn. It’s a different sensibility. We go hard,” the designer said, echoing a line from you-know-who.

Turns out the Brooklyn Nets’ Brooklynettes cheerleader uniforms are just the poor man’s Cher Horowitz and Dionne Davenport’s P.E. outfits. Yikes.

Photos: 300 Dancers Try Out To Be Brooklynettes
By Christopher Robbins in Arts & Entertainment on June 16, 2013 1:00 PM
More than 300 women traveled to Long Island University’s Fort Greene campus yesterday for a chance to join the Brooklyn Nets’ dance team next season. Unlike the basketball team, which just brought in former player Jason Kidd as head coach, the Brooklynettes stuck with coach Adar Wellington, who had the difficult task yesterday of winnowing down the group of 300 to just 40 dancers.

Brooklynettes cheerleading
Cheers times two! Our reporter parties, then tries out for the Brooklynettes

By Jaime Lutz
Most journalists want to someday write the great American novel, but few have the ambition to dance in front of a roaring crowd at the Barclays Center.

Well, one does.

So when I learned that the Brooklyn Nets holding open auditions for the “Brooklynettes,” the team’s cleverly named intermissional troupe, I made a b-line for the Barclays Center with my tutu in tow.
