“But for a beautiful moment in time we created a lot of value for shareholders”

A cartoon by artist Tom Toro was printed in The New Yorker on November 26, 2012. A businessman in a tattered suit tells children around the campfire:

“Yes, the planet got destroyed. But for a beautiful moment in time we created a lot of value for shareholders.”

The cartoon has been frequently used by environmentalists. “For shareholders” is sometimes given as “for our shareholders” or “for the shareholders.”

They’re the living embodiment of the famous New Yorker cartoon, with a suited man sat in a post-apocalyptic landscape telling his young audience “Yes, the planet got destroyed. But for a beautiful moment in time we created a lot of value for shareholders.”
