“Call me/him/us butter because I’m/he’s/we’re on a roll” is a saying cited in print since at least 1999. The pun is for “on a roll” meaning both “on a winning streak” and “on a (dinner) roll.” The saying has been used most often in sports.

Above, a 1934 plaque from the Big Apple Night Club at West 135th Street and Seventh Avenue in Harlem. Discarded as trash in 2006. Now a Popeyes fast food restaurant on Google Maps.
