“Online” (on the internet) is different than “on line” (as in a train track).
     
“So i said to this bloke how can i find out when’s the next train. He said look online i thought thats a bit dangerous!!!” was posted on Twitter by david hopton on June 26, 2011. “I asked ‘could you tell when the next train is from London to Glasgow?’ He told me to look online. I said ‘that’s a bit dangerous isn’t it?’” was posted on Twitter by Daniel on February 15, 2012. Authorship of the joke is unknown.
 
“Can you buy clothes pegs online?” and “Have you seen the new fishing website?”/“No, it’s not online yet” and “What do you call a teller on a tightrope?”/“Online banking” are other “online” jokes.
