Casedemic (case + -demic)

The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic resulted in a new work—“case-demic” or “casedemic.” This is where there are positive tests for COVID-19 (often a false positive), but a person tested often has no symptoms of illness and there is no hospitalization or death. A “casedemic” is an “epidemic” or “pandemic” of “cases.”

“It’s a casedemic now not a deadly-epidemic…” was posted on Twitter  by Myles Hocking on July 29, 2020. “At the start it was an Epidemic. Now it’s a Casedemic” was posted on Twitter by Ivor Cummins on July 30, 2020.

The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic is an ongoing global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The outbreak was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei, China, in December 2019, and was recognised as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 11 March 2020.

It’s a casedemic now not a deadly-epidemic…
I see you haven’t tweeted death stats for weeks.
The 2008/9 flu had a big test surge see below. In short lots of testing, not much dying. Taken from

Yes - and then science happens, just like for similar viruses in history.
The susceptible pass, community immunity takes over. Gompertz curve completed.
This isn’t rocket science…
At the start it was an Epidemic.
Now it’s a Casedemic.

Some traces of sanity returning in The Telegraph - this inexplicably shifted to being a Case-demic

It’s a Casedemic.
If you measure like hell, you’ll find masses of cases after the epidemic (i.e. mortality impact) is essentially over.

As an engineer I never imagined I would learn so much about viruses and epidemiology over the last 6 months. Lots of new words and processes. This word “casedemic” I’d say is very well chosen for this Event as it is so unique that it will require an invention of its own science.

CODY – As of last Friday, 3,183 total positive COVID cases in Wyoming. With 2,641 recovered. Do the math: 3183-2641 = 542 active COVID cases in Wyoming.

There are 13 hospitalizations. Which means those that have it do not have very severe symptoms or they’d be in the hospital.

Have you heard the term “casedemic”? Some people I follow coined the word to describe the ridiculous, contextless reporting of cases in a way meant to shock the uneducated and conjure up images of impending doom, as though cases=deaths. It’s unfortunate.

“maskholes” isn’t new. but she did use the term wrong: a maskhole (noun) is the sheep-like mask wearer who shames normal people who don’t buy in to the casedemic and so refuse to cover their face. “casedemic”= there’s a new word for your lexicon, too!

This phenomenon has been christened “the Casedemic”. That is, by measuring the number of cases (which could include people who’ve had coronavirus asymptomatically and therefore suffered no ill effects) rather than the number of fatalities, the coronavirus establishment scare industry is giving a completely misleading impression about the nature of the threat.

Who invented the word casedemic? It’s NOT a medical word. Case fatality rate is the proper usage.
