“Cashier: The self-checkout is available. Customer: I don’t work here.”

Many people don’t like self-checkout and would rather go to a cashier. “I don’t work here!” is a popular customer comment.

“No, I don’t want to self checkout. I don’t work here” was posted on Twitter by .C. Jones on April 18, 2011. “Her: Wanna go through the self checkout line? Me: Nah I don’t work here” was posted on Twitter by Marvin Jr. on May 17, 2015. “Target employee: Self checkout is open Me: oh sorry I don’t work here” was posted on Twitter by Cali Dan on July 15, 2017.

The line was possibly popularized by American stand-up comedian and actor Bill Burr. “At Subway…lady told me where the lids where…almost told her I don’t work here and that angry Bill Burr tone” was posted on Twitter by Vlad Larivaud on August 1, 2011. “@Becklopedia Took advise from Bill Burr. Never use the self check out. ‘I don’t work here’” was posted on Twitter by Strat Soldier on September 24, 2012.
