The saying can be controversial. The global athletic footwear and apparel company Reebok posted “Cheat on your girlfriend, not on your workout” advertisements in Germany in 2012—using a saying that had already existed on T-shirts and did not originate with Reebok—but Reebok was forced to remove the ads after a backlash.

Washington, Mar 20 (ANI): Reebok has come under fire for its latest ad campaign, which urges athletes to cheat on their girlfriends.
 
“Cheat on your girlfriend, not on your workout,” says the new ad.
   
CheaterVille.com - a website dedicated to calling out cheaters all across the world - has sent out a letter to Reebok’s headquarters urging them to remove the campaign or a boycott will ensue.

The posters were only up in Germany, but the backlash was global, with some even urging a boycott.

The poster, which ran at a gym affiliated with the brand in Germany, was intended to motivate, with the slogan: ‘Cheat on your girlfriend, not on your workout.’
 
Instead, however, it was met with a consumer backlash, and the sportswear firm pulled the ad and acknowledged that it was ‘offensive’.
