“Coronavirus is like pasta. Made by Chinese. Spread by Italians. Supersized by Americans”

The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei, China, and then spread to infect large numbers of people in Italy and the United States. Many people have compared this pattern to the story of pasta.

“The #coronavirus is a little like #pasta… Discovered in China & picked up by the Italians” (and also the French, “Le coronavirus c’est un peu comme les pâtes. Découvertes en Chine et repris par les italiens”) was posted on Twitter by Penelope Gallant on February 25, 2010.  “The coronavirus is like pasta, discovered in China and taken over by the Italians” was posted on Twitter by 12shitpost later on February 25, 2020.

“Corona virus. It’s like pasta. Made by the Chinese. Spread by the Italians. Made unreasonably large by the Americans” was posted on Reddit—Jokes on March 28, 2020.
