Crème Brûlée on a Stick (toasted marshmallows or Peeps)

Peeps are marshmallows shaped into animals. Peeps (or marshmallows) on a stick toasted over a flame have been called “Crème brûlée on a stick.”

“Have you ever roasted Peeps? Like creme brulee on a stick!” was posted on Twitter by NetWeave Social Net on March 5, 2010. “I would like to point out that I *totally invented* roasting Peeps over a fire. So there. (It’s like creme brulee on a stick!)” was posted on Twitter by Joan Arkham on March 30, 2010. “It’s like creme brule on a stick! RT @dfsheffield new Easter weekend tradition, thanks to Lesley Marie: campfire-roasted ‘peeps’” was posted on Twitter by Lesley Marie Boileau on April 2, 2010.

“You’re late to the game @buzzfeed I invented this years ago. It’s like Creme Brulee on a stick” was posted on Twitter by RecessRich on April 1, 2018. “I invented that. It’s Creme Brulee on a stick!” was posted on Twitter by RecessRich on April 8, 2020. It is uncertain who invented toasting Peeps on a stick.

Wikipedia: Crème brûlée
Crème brûlée (/ˌkrɛm bruːˈleɪ/; French pronunciation: [kʁɛm bʁy.le]), also known as burned cream, burnt cream or Trinity cream, and similar to crema catalana, is a dessert consisting of a rich custard base topped with a texturally contrasting layer of hardened caramelized sugar. It is normally served slightly chilled; the heat from the caramelizing process tends to warm the top of the custard, while leaving the center cool. The custard base is traditionally flavored with vanilla in French cuisine, but can have other flavorings. It is sometimes garnished with fruit.

Wikipedia: Peeps
Peeps are marshmallows sold in the United States and Canada that are shaped into chicks, bunnies, and other animals. There are also different shapes used for various holidays. Peeps are used primarily to fill Easter baskets, though recent advertising campaigns market the candy as “Peeps - Always in Season”, as Peeps has since expanded to include Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day; since 2014 it has been available year-round with the introduction of Peeps Minis. They are made from sugar, corn syrup, gelatin, various food dyes and a pinch of salt.

Since they’re not going anywhere, you might as well put them to good use. If you’ve never tried them toasted over fire, you absolutely must. The sugary outside caramelizes, creating a sort of a poor man’s creme brulee on a stick. Seriously. Try it.

Well, this is weird. For the record I first tried this in 1997 or so, when I used to go camping (!) once a year for Beltane which happens to be right when Easter candy is on clearance…
(But I realize many others came to the same conclusion!)
