Waffle + Croissant = Croffle!

I love waffles for a special occasion weekend breakfast because they have all those nooks and crannies that catch the maple syrup or anything delicious you want to put on top. If you agree, then you need to try a CROFFLE!
 
A croffle is the marriage of two of my favorite breakfast items: the croissant and the waffle. The best thing about this happy combination? It’s CRAZY EASY. Like, even easier than waffles.
 
I did this video as a part of my video series for Food & Wine’s website, FWx.com, and here’s what I did:
 
Take some thawed puff pastry (available at a grocery store near you) and press it in the waffle iron for 4-5 minutes. If want to make a pain au chocolat tribute, then just add some chocolate chips. Watch the video to see how simple and delicious the croffle can be.

Trailing not too far behind the specialty corn dog and spicy stir-fried dakgalbi, the croffle — a golden hybrid of the croissant and waffle — is the latest South Korean food fad to arrive in NYC.
 
On the corner of 149th Place and Barton Avenue in the Murray Hill section of Flushing, the sleek Croffle House serves this decadent treat: A soft, buttery, and layered croissant toasted to a caramelized, honeycomb crispiness in a waffle iron before it’s dressed a dozen different ways.

Despite the croffle’s link to South Korea, its origin actually traces back to two separate events: A 2015 Food and Wine home cooking video in NYC and a 2017 pop-up at La Petite Boulangerie in Dublin, Ireland, where pastry chef and TV show host, Louise Lennox, is credited with inventing the buttery pastry as part of a collaboration with bakery chain Cuisine de France.
