The Cable News Network (now called CNN) began in 1980 as the first all-news 24-hour television network. CNN has been called the “Cuomo News Network” by many because it hired Chris Cuomo in 2013, and because of a perceived favorable reporting of his brother, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo himself used the term to mock his brother. “A satirical video from Democratic Gov. Andrew mocks state Republicans and imagines a ‘Cuomo News Network’ that he says is better than the real CNN” was printed by the Associated Press on June 11, 2014. “He teased Chris Cuomo, saying he is starting his own CNN: Cuomo News Network” was printed in the Press & Sun-Bulletin (Binghamton, NY) on May 26, 2018. CNN’s Chris Cuomo often interviewed his brother during the 2020-21 COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, and “Cuomo News Network” went viral.
 
“Cuomo Nepotism Network” is a similar CNN nickname.
