“Did Rudolph go to a regular school?”/“No, he was elf taught.”

A Christmas riddle about Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is:

Q: Did Rudolph go to a regular school?
A: No, he was elf taught.

“Question: Did Rudolph go to a regular school?: Answer: No. He was ‘Elf’ taught” was posted on Twitter on December 5, 2008. An “elf-taught” joke about a reindeer named Olive (“Olive the other reindeer,” for “all of the other reindeer,” is a popular pun) was cited in print in December 2001, but was probably not known to the author of the Rudolph riddle seven years later.

20 December 2001, Evening News (Edinburgh, Scotland), “Venison for lunch or the reindeer’s in trouble,” pg. 9:
He joked: “This is getting serious. It is very sad that this has happened to Olive (The Reindeer—ed.)  at Uphall Primary as this is the first school she has been in - previously she was elf-taught.”
