The expression “business is dead” is usually not taken literally, but there are some jokes. “I have a friend who just got a job as an attendant at a funeral home…he informed me that business was ‘dead’ today…” was posted on Twitter by Laura on June 22, 2009. “The funeral home had to close because business was dead” was posted on Twitter by L&L Puns on May 3, 2012.
“Did you hear about the funeral home that closed? Apparently business was dead” was posted on Reddit—3amjokes on February 3, 2020.
“I used to run an origami company, but it folded” and “I used to have a riding academy, but business kept falling off” are similar business jokes.

Above, a 1934 plaque from the Big Apple Night Club at West 135th Street and Seventh Avenue in Harlem. Discarded as trash in 2006. Now a Popeyes fast food restaurant on Google Maps.
