“Don’t limit your challenges. Challenge your limits”

“Don’t limit your challenges. Challenge your limits” is a motivational saying that has been printed on many images. The saying has been used in classified advertisements since at least January 1987.

The saying was popularized as the slogan of Jerry Dunn, who has been called “America’s Marathon Man” for his marathon-running. Dunn was credited with the saying in Newsday (Long Island, NY) on October 15, 1988.

On Marathon Sunday, he’ll don a shirt with his slogan “Don’t Limit Your Challenges, Challenge Your Limits,” and who could argue that Dunn has done anything but?

19 October 1998, New York (NY) Post, “Another Day, Another 26 Miles for Marathon Man” by Gersh Kuntzman, pg. 20:
Today, Jerry Dunn will run his 16th marathon.

Big deal, you say? Think again: This isn’t the 16th marathon of Dunn’s life - it’s the 16th marathon of Dunn’s last 16 days.

His other catch phrase? Don’t limit your challenges; challenge your limits.
