People in the performing arts are often told to reach for the stars. The expression “reach for the stars” does not, of course, mean reaching for actual stars. “Don’t reach for the stars! They are white hot balls of plasma! Your Hands will BURN RIGHT OFF! Instead, Reach for your pencil and pen! DRAW!” was cited on Twitter on July 27, 2011. “Don’t reach for the stars. They are super hot and will burn your hands off” was cited on Twitter on July 31, 2012.
 
“Don’t reach for the stars. They are extremely hot and will incinerate you” was cited on Twitter on June 4, 2014. This form of the expression quickly became popular.
