“Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit when there are footprints on the moon”

“Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit when there are footprints on the moon” is a saying that has been printed on many posters. “The sky’s the limit” is an expression meaning that there is no limit. Footprints were first placed on the moon in 1969.

Canadian country music artist Paul Brandt wrote in “There’s a World Out There” (1999):

“There’s a world out there and I wanna be in it
I got a life and I’m gonna live it
Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit
There’s footprints on the moon.”

Origin

‘The sky’s the limit’ is much more recent. It originated at a time of optimism and progress - in the USA just before WWI. The earliest citation I can find is from the New York newspaper The Syracuse Herald, September 1911:

“Then good luck, and remember the sky’s the limit.”

“Don’t tell me the sky is the limit, there are footprints on the moon!”
I often took moon as a symbol for loneliness…as a kid I used to love to see the full moon with a tinch of orange and a smiling face…(may be a perception mine..)..!!! Beyond that..I never felt that I should even think about it as it really makes me think ...too deep 😊

The name of the song is “There’s a world out there.” from Paul Brandt’s album “That’s the Truth.” I believe the picture is the album cover.

I challenge them with the question, “If the sky is the limit, why then are there footprints on the moon?”
