Drive-By Media (DBM)

“Drive by media” or “drive-by media” (DBM) is an unflattering nickname that conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh applied to the “mainstream media” (MSM) since March 2006. The term derives, in part. from “drive-by shooting.” Limbaugh meant that the media are only interested in sensational stories and are just “driving by,” not really attached to or investigating news stories.

Limbaugh replaced DBM with “State-Run Media” (SRM) since June 2009.

Similar terms include “Lame Stream Media” (LSM)“enchanted media,” “fringe media” and “past tense media.”

Wikipedia: Rush Limbaugh
Rush Hudson Limbaugh III (pronounced /ˈlɪmbɔː/; born January 12, 1951) is an American radio host, conservative political commentator, and an influential opinion leader in the conservative movement in the United States. He hosts The Rush Limbaugh Show which is aired throughout the U.S. on Premiere Radio Networks and is the highest-rated talk-radio program in the United States.

He was born into a family with a long history of involvement in Republican politics and first began working at a local radio station at age sixteen. In 1984, after a series of radio related jobs, Limbaugh began working as a radio talk show host in Sacramento, California. His unique program featured no guests, relying exclusively on his conservative political analysis for content. He moved to New York City in 1988 where he began the national broadcast of his program on WABC radio. His program grew in popularity and he began his rise to national fame.

In the 1990s, Limbaugh’s fame grew beyond radio, into publishing and television. He became a bestselling author with his books The Way Things Ought to Be (1992) and See, I Told You So (1993). From 1992 to 1996, Limbaugh hosted a half-hour television talk show.

Limbaugh is a controversial figure in American politics and media. He frequently accuses the American mainstream media of having a strong liberal bias, criticizes liberal policies and politicians, and promotes conservative positions.

Drive-by media
Rush Limbaugh’s term for the sensational, scandal-seeking, and agenda-driven coverage that is typical of the national press corps in America. Limbaugh draws an analogy between the media who cover a story with a barrage of unfair cheap shots before moving on to the next flavor of the month and an inner city gang that drives by and sprays a target with gunfire and then moves on to their next target.
Rush Limbaugh predicted that the response to the alleged murders at Haditha from Democrats, the left, and the media would be a “gang rape ... to finally take us out in the war against Iraq.” Limbaugh stated: “This Haditha story ... this is it, folks. This is the final big push on behalf of the Democratic Party, the American left, and the drive-by media to destroy our effort to win the war in Iraq.” Limbaugh added: “Let me just put it in graphic terms. It is going to be a gang rape. There is going to be a gang rape by the Democratic Party, the American left, and the drive-by media to finally take us out in the war against Iraq. Make no bones about it.”

I agree on all of the above. I was living in L.A. during the Rodney King riots and saw exactly how the media fanned the flames and then crowed about the result. This is the M.O. of what Rush now is calling the Drive By Media.

Incidentally, I work with many knee-jerk (emphasis on the JERK) liberals who freely admit they don’t give a damn about Iraqi lives. This is one of the many ways I know that, protestations to the contrary, the Dems in general and libs in particular really do not give a damn about lives, period.

Rush Limbaugh calls the MSM the “drive-by” media, meaning that they shoot mis-infomation, half-truth and lies into us,the ordinary crowds of people going about our lives. The mass confusion caused by their “shootings” into the masses creates chaos. It’s just what they want, so that they can spend hours pushing their liberal agenda to their way of thinking. So when all the damage is done we ordinary ones have a further reason not to trust the MSM for anything other than the weather and that is suspect sometimes.

DBM - commonly applied to Drive By Media, although your explanation of the acronym works just as well.

Yeah that will work but the original “Drive by Media” coined by Rush is so hard to beat. If only I could draw the picture of them driving by shooting and running with bogus story after story.
