“Each day of our lives we make deposits into the memory banks of our children”

“Each day of our lives we make deposits in/into the memory banks of our children” is a quotation that has been printed on posters; the saying has been posted at many schools and has been included in many books and articles about parenting. Charles R. Swindoll, an evangelical Christian pastor and author, wrote in Growing Wise in Family Life (1988):

“Each day of our lives we make deposits into the memory banks of our children. By remembering that, I find I am more likely to work on the qualities that build a lasting relationship between my children and me. “

Although Swindoll wrote “into the memory banks,” the quotation is most often cited as “in the memory banks.”
