“Eating well is a form of self-respect”

“Eating well is a form of self-respect” is a food saying that has been printed on many images. The saying means that eating well and taking care of one’s body are important forms of self-respect. Self-respect is often thought of only in psychological forms.

“Eating well is a form of self-respect” was published in the Chicago (IL) Tribune on November 26, 1979, but the saying didn’t become popular until 2015—probably from an image. “Eating well is a form of self-respect” was posted on Twitter on January 21, 2015.

A satisfied smile might be symbolic of the Hungarian-born (Laszlo—ed,) Kondor’s decidedly European attitude toward life, food, and fashion models. “To me, eating well is a form of self-respect.”

I read this quote on Twitter and it stuck with me. The further along I go on my weight loss journey, the more I realize that it’s not about the food or the taste; it’s about me and how I feel about myself.

You posted the quote on Instagram, “Eating well is a form of self-respect.” What did you mean by that?
People think about dieting and nutrition often as sort of a punishment or a form of torture. Often, people feel like if they’re enjoying their food, then obviously it must not be healthy. And I feel like that’s the exact opposite way to look at it. There’s lots of things about healthy food that can be delicious and satisfying, and it shouldn’t be about deprivation.
