“Success is often the result of taking a misstep in the right direction” was said by Chicago newspaper writer Al Bernstein in 1975. The quotation made Reader’s Digest magazine and has been included in several books of quotations.

Journalism career
In the 1970s, Bernstein was a newspaperman, working at Lerner Newspapers in Chicago. He eventually became a managing editor at that newspaper.
