“Everything happens for a Riesling” is a wine saying that has been printed on many images. “Riesling” might sound a bit like “reason.”

Riesling is a white grape variety which originated in the Rhine region. Riesling is an aromatic grape variety displaying flowery, almost perfumed, aromas as well as high acidity. It is used to make dry, semi-sweet, sweet, and sparkling white wines. Riesling wines are usually varietally pure and are seldom oaked.

NOEL KING: Good morning. I’m Noel King. A few months ago, Mike Schneider, an artist in Portland, Ore., took maybe not the art world but at least Instagram by storm. Sick of bad relationships, he made a boyfriend out of empty wine boxes. He called the box-boyfriend Franz and posted pictures of them shopping and making dinner. Now, he says, he and his wine boxes are engaged. As Schneider put it, everything happens for a riesling.
