Facon or Fakon (fake + bacon)

“Facon” or “fakon” (fake + bacon) is vegetarian bacon. The names “facon” and “fakon” have not been trademarked.

Wikipedia: Vegetarian bacon
Vegetarian bacon, also referred to as fakon, veggie bacon, or vacon, is a product marketed as a bacon alternative that is available in supermarkets. It is high in protein and fiber, yet low in fat, and has no cholesterol. Two slices average 75 calories. Popular brands include Morningstar Farms and Smart Bacon; however, Morningstar Streaky Strips have been discontinued in the UK.

As it happens I personally know a mashgiach and smallgoods maker (same person) who was involved in making a product called “Facon”. He simply got the non-Jews in his employ to test the product. They said it was
indistinguishable from the real thing. And there is nothing wrong with seeking new taste sensations so long as they are kosher.

Although advertisements and sponsorships are two mainstream ways to generate income from your blog, the key to really bringing home the bacon (or facon, for the fake bacon-loving vegetarians) is to generate income from four or five different avenues either directly or indirectly tied to your digital home base.

18 January 2013, Baltimore (MD) Jewish Times, “Fad-Free Eating Trends for 2013” by Ilene Spector, pg. 50:
The recent Kosherfest in late 2012 showcased many new innovative products. Shop carefully this year and you will see natural, organic, artisanal, local, nut-free and gluten-free items everywhere: gefilte fish sushi, kosher foie gras doughnuts, “facon” (better than any real or fake bacon).

September 2015, Climbing, “Special Order,” pg. 37:
Vegetarian option: fake or vegetarian bacon, also known as fakon. One trade-off from losing the meat is that fakon doesn’t have the same nutrients as pork bacon, missing things like niacin and selenium. Because it’s typically made of a combination of soy and eggs, fakon is still a great source of protein.

Indeed, aubergines are so in vogue right now, vegans are using them to make (pardon the ghastly portmanteau) “fakon”, or fake bacon.
