“Fitness is 20% exercise and 80% nutrition. You can’t outrun your fork”

“Fitness is 20% exercise and 80% nutrition. You can’t outrun your fork” is an exercise saying that has been printed on several images. “You Can’t Outrun Your Fork!” was an article on Nerd Fitness in July 2009.

The article “Nerd Fitness: How to properly track your progress” by Steve Kamb, published by TheNextWeb (TNW) on January 11, 2012, stated:

“You CAN’T outrun your fork – 80% of your successes or failures will be a direct result of how you eat.”

“Fitness is 20% and exercise and 80% nutrition. You can’t outrun your fork” was posted on Twitter on December 27, 2012. “Fitness is 80% nutrition and only 20% exercise!!! You can’t outrun your fork! #Herbalife #GetFitNow” was posted on Twitter on December 31, 2017.

“You can’t out-exercise a bad diet” is a similar saying.

You Can’t Outrun Your Fork!
By Steve
Whenever I talk to people about how to get in shape, all they want to talk about is what to do in the gym to look better and feel better.  I tell them I only get 3 hours a week in the gym; they have the other 165 hours a week to either stay on track or fall off the wagon.  Regardless of what you do or who you want to look like, diet is far and away the most important thing you need to take care of before you have a chance in hell at getting in shape.

You Can’t Outrun Your Fork
By Daniel J. Schultz
Let’s clarify this point before we dive into the details. Exercise is beneficial, plain and simple. Daily exercise can help relieve stress, decrease your risk for cardiovascular disease, and improve sleep and mood.

So when you say “you can’t outrun your fork”... (self.loseit)

I take it to mean that burning calories by exercising isn’t as ‘good’ as not eating them in the first place. Or is that more referring to the fact that 20 minutes of lifting weights won’t even burn off the calories in an apple?
