“Fleabagger” (flea + “teabagger”) has been used since at least April 16, 2009 as an alternative term for “teabagger.” “Fleabagger” is a derogatory term. A “fleabag” hotel is an inferior hotel, seemingly containing fleas. In gay slang, “fleabag” means an old whore and “flea bagger” means an elderly male homosexual.
 
By October 2010, “fleabagger” began to be used as an opposite of “teabagger,” with “fleabagger” an epithet applied to the left and “teabagger” and epithet applied to the right. This meaning of “fleabagger,” however, was relatively little-used until October 2011, when the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters were called a “Flea Party/Fleabagger.”
 
“Fleabagger” should not be confused with “fleebagger”—a politician who flees a state to prevent a quorum.
