“Han Solo’s diet mainly consists of protein and fat… But he allows himself one carb a night”

“Carbonite” sounds like “carb a night.” A joke refers to the movie Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980), where the character Han Solo is frozen in carbonite.

Carbonite freezing
Carbonite freezing in Star Wars is first seen on film in The Empire Strikes Back and also equally mentioned in its novelization, where Darth Vader and The Empire place Han Solo in a carbonite casing and delivered to Jabba the Hutt. Its usage and reverse is also seen in The Empire Strikes Back and its sequel, Return of the Jedi.

Freezing chambers were also sometimes used to seal living beings—though one miscalculation could lead to death. This process required molten carbonite to be released into the chamber which was then flash frozen; a resulting blast of air, soon revealing a solidified encasement. The process could induce hibernation sickness after being released, as was the case with Han Solo. The Alderaanian Medical Association also established that inhaling carbon-freezing smoke was a health risk.
