“Have your people call my people” (business saying)

“Have your people call my people” is a business saying—usually show business—that has been printed on many images. The “people” include agents, lawyers and accountant, and the invitation is for a business meeting. The saying is often made in jest by someone who cannot afford those people.

“But since you’re going to be in the area, let’s do lunch. Have your people call my people” was printed in a Scott Ostler column in the Los Angeles (CA) Times on July 8, 1982. The saying was mock Hollywood language from the earliest citations.

Governor Candidates Debate Debates
MILWAUKEE (AP)—Philip G. Kuehn and John W. Reynolds agreed again today that they would debate the issues of Wisconsin’s gubernatorial campaign “any time, any place,” but as usual they couldn’t agree on either.

“Fine,” Kuehn said. “Let’s have your people and my people get together right away and work out the details.”

Have your people get in touch with my people—frequently heard at parties. People refers to lawyers, agents, managers, and the like. Bruce Jay Friedman, novelist, playwright, and screenwriter, once said: “I was at a party and met a Hollywood producer who said, ‘Have your people get in touch with my people’—and I realized I didn’t have any people.”

That’s about all the advice I have time for now, Al. But since you’re going to be in the area, let’s do lunch. Have your people call my people. Have a nice day.

For some reason, that made me think of a stereotypical Hollywood exec saying to you “Prope baby sweetheart! Have your people call my people and we’ll do lunch! Ciao!”
