“Hockey is for everyone” (NHL slogan)

The National Hockey League began its trademarked “Hockey Is For Everyone” (HIFE) program in 1999. The program offers children of all backgrounds—especially inner-city children—the opportunity to play hockey.

The NHL continues to use the slogan. A magazine headline in April 2013 was: “NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman Says Hockey Is For Everyone, That Includes Gays.”

About Hockey is for Everyone™
Hockey is for Everyone™ (HIFE) is the National Hockey League’s official youth development program. HIFE provides support and unique programing to non-profit youth hockey organizations across North America that are committed to offering children of all backgrounds opportunities to play hockey.

The HIFE initiative leverages the sport of hockey as a catalyst to help children learn essential life skills, education and the core values of hockey: commitment, perseverance, and teamwork.

“I think it’s great for the game,” N.H.L. Commissioner Gary Bettman said last week. “I think diversity is a strength. And I think the fact that we have lots of players of color in our game now is great for the game. And I hope that they serve as role models to people who are interested in our game - both as fans and as young kids - who are looking for role models to emulate. Hockey is for everyone.”
