“How do you know that carrots are good for your eyes?”/“Have you ever seen rabbits wearing glasses?”

Does eating carrots improve one’s eyesight? A popular riddle is:

Q: How do you know that carrots are good for your eyes?
A: Have you ever seen a rabbit wearing glasses?

The joke has been cited in print since at least 1946.

The riddle is often told at Easter. “How do you know that carrots are good for your eyes?  Cause the Easter bunny doesn’t wear glasses!” was posted on Twitter on April 4, 2010.

“How do you know?” asked a small boy.

It was a good question, and it stumped the doctor. But only for a moment.

“Did you ever see a rabbit wearing glasses?” he asked.

The boy admitted that he never had.
