“I make *serious* coffee. Its so strong it wakes up the neighbors” was posted on the newsgroup de.sci.geschichte on January 20, 1997. Authorship is unknown.
“I like my coffee so strong that it wakes my neighbors” and “I like my whiskey so strong it makes my neighbors drunk” are related sayings.

Above, a 1934 plaque from the Big Apple Night Club at West 135th Street and Seventh Avenue in Harlem. Discarded as trash in 2006. Now a Popeyes fast food restaurant on Google Maps.
