A “strip mall” doesn’t have anything to do with “stripping,” but there are jokes.

“Strip malls are a whole lot more family friendly than they sound,” “Strip malls aren’t as fun as they sound,” “Strip malls aren’t as sexy as they sound,” “Strip malls sound way cooler than they are” and “Why is it called a strip mall when there aren’t any strippers?” are related sayings.

Strip malls are typically developed as a unit and have large parking lots in front. They face major traffic arterials and tend to be self-contained with few pedestrian connections to surrounding neighborhoods.
