“Soda pressing” is a pun for “so depressing.” A rock song titled “Soda Pressing” by the punk group Boys was released in 1977.
“He had a soft drink while catching up on the ironing. It was soda pressing” was cited as a “pun of the weak” in 2004. The joke went viral by 2011. “I used to have a job crushing fizzy drink cans. It’s the worst job I’ve ever had - soda pressing” was cited on Twitter on February 8, 2011.
“My job testing fizzy drinks is really getting to me. It’s soda grading” and “I used to work in a shoe-recycling shop. It was sole-destroying” are similar puns about work.
