“I recently opened a restaurant. I guess you could call me an entrée-preneur”

"Entrepreneur” is sometimes jocularly written as “entrée-preneur,” especially for someone in the restaurant business (such as an entrepreneur who sells entrées). “THE RESTAURANT DREAM Four-star advice for anyone who wants to become an ‘entree’preneur” was printed in Sylvia Porter’s Personal Finance in 1984. “ For the ambitious (restaurant—ed.) entree-preneur the sky’s the limit” was printed in the Honolulu (HI) Star-Bulletin on August 15, 1996.

“What do you call someone who runs a business selling dinners? An entréepreneur” was posted on Reddit—Punny on March 19, 2014. “I recently opened a restaurant. I guess you could call me an Entrée-preneur” was posted on Reddit—Dadjokes on May 3, 2019.

RESTAURANTS have been built around rock ‘n’ roll (Hard Rock Cafe), movie stars (Planet Hollywood) and fashion (Fashion Cafe), but why settle for one theme, when for the ambitious entree-preneur the sky’s the limit.

An entree in a restaurant is a main dish. And it sounds like the first part of entrepreneur. And someone who opens a business is an entrepreneur. It’s a pun on that.
