“I went to the store to get 6 cans of Sprite, but ended up picking 7 Up”

Sprite (a lemon and lime-flavored soft drink) is often mistaken for 7 Up, and there’s a popular joke. “@davelee Just been done for shoplifting in Tesco. Thought I’d gone to the checkout with 6 cans of Sprite, but I’d actually picked 7up” was posted on Twitter on July 9, 2009. “After seein Drakes commercial i went 2 buy 6 cans of Sprite… but I accidentally picked 7 Up” was posted on Twitter  on February 13, 2010. “Nearly got done for shoplifting. Paid at the self service thing for 6 cans of Sprite but the guard looked in my bag & found I’d picked 7 up” was posted on Twitter on April 22, 2010.

Wikipedia: 7 Up
7 Up (stylized as 7up outside the U.S.) is a brand of lemon-lime flavored, non-caffeinated soft drink. The rights to the brand are held by Dr Pepper Snapple Group in the United States, and PepsiCo (or its licensees) in the rest of the world.

Wikipedia: Sprite
Sprite is a colorless, caffeine-free, lemon and lime-flavored soft drink created by The Coca-Cola Company. It was first developed in West Germany in 1959 as Fanta Klare Zitrone (“Clear Lemon Fanta”) and was introduced in the United States under the current brand name Sprite in 1961 as a competitor to 7 Up.
