“If Mary is the mother of Jesus and Jesus is the Lamb of God…” (joke)

The Gospel of John calls Jesus the “Lamb of God.” This is not connected to the nursery rhyme “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” but there are jokes.

“‘Mary had a little lamb is a Christmas song because Mary… and she had a lamb… and Jesus is the lamb of God’ - I love my kids” was posted on Twitter by Joshua Skeat on December 25, 2009. “If Mary was the mother of Jesus, and Jesus is the Lamb of God, does that mean that Mary had a little lamb?” was posted on Reddit—Showerthoughts on February 26, 2014. “If Mary is the mother of Jesus and Jesus is the lamb of God, does that mean that Mary had a little lamb?” was posted on Reddit—Dadjokes on February 14, 2021.

Wikipedia: Lamb of God
Lamb of God (Greek: Ἀμνὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ, romanized: Amnòs toû Theoû; Latin: Agnus Deī [ˈaɲus ˈde.i]) is a title for Jesus that appears in the Gospel of John. It appears at John 1:29, where John the Baptist sees Jesus and exclaims, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” It appears again in John 1:36.

This one is actually true, from my Grade 4 & 5 Sunday School class. I asked the kids what it meant that Jesus was the Lamb of God. They thought, and they thought….nothing.

Finally, one little girl raised her hand enthusiastically. “Oh!” she said. “I’ve got it! Jesus was the child of Mary, right? And Mary had a little lamb!”

Cracked me up. I couldn’t keep a straight face through that one!

Something to ponder this Easter.
If Mary was the mother of Jesus, and Jesus is the Lamb of God, does that mean that Mary had a little lamb?
Happy Easter.
