If our actions are not affecting others, we generally consider them to be a personal choice. Once our actions affect others, this is no longer true. At that point, it is not a harmless personal preference. At that point, there is a victim, and people are allowed to speak up for the victim. One is not allowed to just say it is a personal choice and expect their opinion to be respected… People generally get defensive, and do not like to be told when they are on the wrong side of logic and morality. The bottom line, however, is that we enslave and kill sentient animals when we don’t have to. We are doing it on an unbelievably massive scale, using unbelievably cruel techniques, and negatively impacting other humans and the environment while doing it.

People have every right to tell us about it and try to get us to stop. It is not a harmless personal choice. There are victims to our actions… People have every right to speak up on behalf of the oppressed. And while no one likes to feel judged, we must remember that it is not a judgment on us as a total person, but rather a judgment on the particular practice of eating animals. And it is not so much personally directed at us as individuals, but rather it is a call for collective social change and a call for justice. ” Meat Logic: Why Do We Eat Animals ?”- Charles Horn
