“If youth is wasted on the young, then wealth is wasted on the old”

“Youth is wasted on the young” has been credited to Irish-born playwright George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950). A second line about wealth is sometimes added to this saying.

“If you ask me, wealth is wasted on the wealthy, just as youth is wasted on the young” was printed in a 1983 book. “George Bernard Shaw once wrote: Youth is wasted on he young.’ Today, wealth is wasted on the rich” was printed in a 1986 newspaper.

“If youth is wasted on the young, then wealth is wasted on the old” was posted on the newsgroup rec.autos on December 15, 1993.

Youth is wasted on the youth, they say, just as wealth is wasted on the elderly.
As middle-aged I stand between these positions so if any elderly wealthy people wish to help out, I’m all ears.

I think this every time I see a 70 something year old driving a fancy sports car.
