Donald Trump was elected U.S. president on November 8, 2016. He did not get along well with the mainstream media, and he called CNN (and others) as “fake news.” Many people previously associated the term “fake news” with the National Enquirer, a supermarket tabloid magazine.

The National Enquirer is an American tabloid newspaper. Founded in 1926, the newspaper has undergone a number of changes over the years. As of April 18, 2019, The Washington Post reported that the National Enquirer was being sold for $100 million to James Cohen, CEO of Hudson Group.
 
The National Enquirer openly acknowledges that it will pay sources for tips, a practice generally disapproved of by the mainstream press.[citation needed] It has also been embroiled in several controversies related to its catch and kill practices and allegations of blackmail. It has struggled with declining circulation figures because of competition from other glossy tabloid publications.

I remember when people use to say the National Enquirer and the Star were fake news… all of the major networks are worse now… and I do mean all… everyone of them have bias. They no longer allow the viewer to form their own opinion, they give it to them.
